Word of the Day (13)

The word for today is BEAM. It has a couple of meanings ranging from BEAM of light (line of light), BEAM of a house or bridge (long element of structure) to BEAMING with smile (as a verb). Children BEAM after getting their presents, don't they?

 When did You last BEAM
I have an impression that BEAM is also often used in science fiction movies or books.
Can you give some examples?

  1. Science fiction reference from Star Trek: "Beam me up, Scotty, there's no intelligent life here". A beam of light would transport them to a different location.

Secondly, I can't remember the last time I've beamed! That's pathetic.

  2. Thanks for the examples. I can add to those above a BALANCE BEAM = a device for gymnasts (even though it's not a sci-fi thing).
